Choosing Care Providers

The first step in choosing the right care provider is determining the care needs of the person with dementia at this point in time. Whenever possible, involve the person with dementia in care decisions. Factors to consider in choosing the best care providers includes patient’s safety, health care needs, level of supervision and social engagement. One can also look into the training and experience of the staff, background check and do on-site visits to take time to look around. Selection varies from adult day centers to residential care.

Benefits of Adult Day Care Centers

Adult day centers provide a chance to be social and to participate in group activities such as music and exercise programs. Some people may resist going at first, but they often look forward to the visit after several weeks of attending, meeting people and joining in activities. Adult day centers also offer benefits to relatives, guardians and caregivers, while providing a much-needed break. While the person with Alzheimer’s is at the center, you’ll have time to rest, run errands or finish other tasks.
